Translated Recommendation

This is to be a certificate in the hands of the honorable, Mrs. Orit Esther Ritter, may she live long. She has been involved in this profession, ”Alternative Medicine,” for many years and for the sake of Heaven. After she has seen much Heavenly help and success, and has a reputation as an expert in this field, she has requested a recommendation regarding the halachic validity of this treatment.

For several years, many men and women from our people have sought out alternative remedies, such as pendulum, “Moach 1,” and similar, performed by God-fearing people whom God has gifted with this method of healing. Their intentions are only for healing, and has already been explained at length in a responsa (? Yoreh Dayah, Siman 175), and regarding all of these our rabbis, z”l, have taught “whatever is for the sake of healing is not an issue of “Darchei Amorai.” Many learn this also from the section of the bronze snakes. See the holy words of the Ramban at length and the Ohr HaChaim HaKadosh there, as to what extent the Nefesh and mind have the ability to damage or help with faith in God.

For this reason, there is a condition before practicing [any of] this. Both the one performing the treatment and the one receiving should verbally proclaim that they do not believe in any other powers, only in the Creator, may His Name be blessed. He is the only “One Who heals all flesh and does wonders,” and Who creates in His goodness for the sake of His creations, everyday and in every generation, new forms of healing. We are only His messengers to actualize the work of His hands, and we hope, pray, and trust that He will help us with all of this. Amen, may it be His will.

In light of all that has been said, there is no doubt that all those involved in this [form of] healing according to Torah and Jewish law, aside from the kindness, is performing a great mitzvah, as the “Mechaber” says (Shulchan Aruch, Yorah Dayah 336). And this is specifically the case when accompanied with all that has been mentioned: faith, trust, pleasantness, kindness, modesty, and holiness.

Therefore, I say regarding Amina L’pa’ala Tava Yashar (She is truthful and righteous in her doings), that God should be with her and should desire her hand to be successful to make God and people happy, doing kindness for others.“For I am God Who heals you” should be fulfilled through us.

Regarding this I have come to sign for the sake of the honor and health of our Jewish brothers,

Rabbi Benzion Y. Wosner
