As we have discussed in past daily doses, G-d’s presence hides in the material. To expand this point, G-d’s existence is found even in our negative thoughts and lowly desires. The Besht teaches us the way to extract and elevate the G-dly spark hidden in the darkest ideas and distant needs.
Each time we engage in any form of pleasure, albeit healthy or harmful, we essentially are seeking love and unity. According to the Besht a ‘fallen’ love is one that is heavily covered in materialistic garments, distant from its heavenly source, to the point where we do not even recognize its point of origin.
However, it is all G-dly and the sole reason we need to meet this lowly form of pleasure is so that we reveal the Giver of all good. How is this done? Simply through consciousness, by recognizing Who is the One that gives all sources of pleasure in the first place – G-d.
