The RamBam ztk”l teaches that a nisayon, test of faith determines the degree of one’s emuna. The measuring bar – how willing are we to follow our emuna against logic. As we are being drowned by logical questions, “But how..” “It can’t be…” etc. we must halt and put on our emuna lenses.
It begins with accepting the circumstances yet at the same time reflecting how to better ourselves in areas we must refine.
Everything in the universe is planned to the finest detail. It is part of Hashem’s master plan – Hashgocha pratit, Divine providence. Challenges serve a purpose, they help us achieve certain goals.
We are meant to live in this world as an alien on foreign land and see it as temporary lodging. Even though it feels as though our stay is long-lasting, we must not get heavily involved with the material side of life. This requires constant reminding of oneself that we are here for a period of time to achieve certain missions and not to get caught up in the ‘scenery’ of the physical plane.
When we make ourselves into aliens in this world, Hashem will thus become a resident. Yet sadly if we make ourselves into residents in this world, overly attaching ourselves to non-spiritual pursuits, it is Hashem who will chas v’Shalom become alien to the world!
